Detecting bacterium with Blu-ray Players

Researchers have developed the way to hack ready-made Blu-ray players to be used as cheap medical screening devices to notice pathogens like enteric bacteria.
To give the Blu-ray player its bacteria-sensing capabilities, the team equipped it with a custom information board ready to live the reflectivity of the disc. items of polymer or macromolecule, known as probes, were then hooked up to the surface of the disc and their location noted. an answer containing the polymer of the infectious agent, or its poisonous substance, was then applied to the probe-side of the disc. once the surplus resolution was washed off, bits of the polymer or poisonous substance remained behind, stuck to the probes.

The team then place the disc within the drive, wherever the optical maser scanned the disc to make a high-resolution image of the samples captured by the probes. So far, the Blu-ray methodology has allowed researchers to with success establish enteric bacteria typhimuium, the enteral parasite Cronobacter sadazakii and a biotoxin created by bacterium which will infect potable.
