A house designed by a team of Japanese students creates its own heat through the fermentation of straw.
The method, called agricultural fermentation, takes place as dried straw is composted in acrylic cases within the house. The straw is hold on within clear window shelves within the summer, that unleash cooling wet because the straw dries. throughout the cold winter months, the straw is moved inside for composting and warmth generation. The composting follows the japanese bokashi technique, manufacturing terribly low odor, and may generate 86⁰F for up to four weeks.
Designed as a part of the instruction to measure project, the house was created to follow the cycles of the agriculture city Taiki-cho, that includes a nice several straw pastures.
